Joliet Township’s Animal Control Center is responsible for sheltering stray or unwanted dogs and cats that are available for adoption at the Center. The Center has a population of puppies, kittens, and adult animals available for adoption. To control the animal population, any adopted animal from the Center must be spayed or neutered as part of the adoption agreement.

Joliet Township Government’s Animal Control Ordinance states that no stray animals shall be permitted upon the public thoroughfares or property in Joliet Township. Through intergovernmental agreements with the City of Joliet, the Village of Rockdale, and the City of Crest Hill, the Animal Control staff is also responsible for Animal Control within these municipalities.

Animal Control Patrol Wardens respond to calls reporting loose and stray animals to ensure they are picked up and brought back to the center to ensure the public’s safety. An Animal Control Patrol Warden is available 24 hours a day for emergencies involving stray animals or abused animals during the Center’s closed hours.

The staff at the Animal Control Center also takes calls for lost animals. It attempts to assist the owner in locating a lost animal if the animal has been picked up and brought to the Animal Control Center.
